The Teizan Canal Research Institute was established to promote local development and tourism, using as a resource the interesting historical heritage of the Teizan Canal, of which Miyagi Prefecture is very proud. There are many tasks to do and problems to resolve to promote tourism business associated with the Teizan Canal. Executing the various tasks and resolving various problems is not easy and takes a great deal of time.
To make the Teizan Canal a tourism resource requires the co-operation of the many parties involved. First, it is most important to obtain the understanding and co-operation of Miyagi Prefecture, which manages the Teizan Canal. Also required is the support of the cities and towns connected with the Teizan Canal, as well as the understanding, co-operation and voluntary action of the local people living along its banks. Developing the tourism resources of the Teizan Canal will need much investment, which can be provided through access to public funds and donations from private enterprises and individual investors. The Teizan Canal Research Institute networks with many concerned parties and co-ordinates its business through their co-operation.
Discovering untapped resources, polishing them and using them in the tourism market is an important process, vital for developing new tourism resources.
Success or otherwise of the tourism business depends on attracting a steady stream of tourists. Much effort is thus needed to attract tourists from outside Japan, which should be possible because the Teizan Canal is also a very attractive tourism resource from the point of view of people coming from abroad. Therefore, from the beginning, the Teizan Canal should be developed as a global tourism resource.
At present, the Teizan Canal Research Institute is a voluntary organization but once its activities have started up, it is planned to develop it into an NPO or a General Incorporated Association.
